Hey what’s up fam. I got some old new news for you guys. Well the other night at a show I overheard a few people having a conversation about a line jay-z used. Now ill tell you the person that was talking about this was a 65 to 70 year old white man. Not the person I thought would be quoting a line from the Jigga-man. But what really caught my ear was when he mentioned who inspired one of Jays most famous line. “Allow me to introduce my self “ yeah you know the rest.

Well if you don’t know him allow me to introduce to you Oscar Brown Jr. from Chicago. Born on Oct. 10 1926 Oscar brown Jr. was a singer, songwriter, playwright, poet, civil rights activist and actor. The thing that sparked my interest was when in 1960 he attempted to have a major musical stage show in New York City called Kicks & Co. The play is set on an all African American college campus in the American South during the early days of attempted desegregation. The song in subject is Mr. Kicks a song that well describes who is in the play. This character Mr. Kicks is an emissary of Satan, and he came to discourage and detour the efforts of the main character Ernest Black.

Other then being a great writer and preforming artist he was also a great businessman and Humanitarian as the founder of The Oscar Brown Jr. H.I.P Legacy foundation. On May 29, 2009 Oscoar Brown Jr. died in his hometown of Chicago Ill from complications of osteomyelitis.
