When I listen to the Oxymorrons latest CD, STFU and listen. The only word that would come out my mouth is wow. This is music. D and Ki are brothers and also the members of this unorthodox Klasher duo. What's klasher music you might ask. Well its a combination of rap, rock, techno , country, ect.. All "Klashed" together to get this unique sound that is taking over New York City. And the Oxymorrons are at the forefront of it.
Far from your average music group the Oxymorrons don't Only have great music to listen too but they can perform with the best of them. I went to see them perform at Webster hall a few weeks ago and got these incredible pictures..... Well click the video link below and check video promo for album STFU and listen. When the Oxymorrons hit the stage..it was electric..
Yo whats Really Real?? Its Ya big brotha Lyric back with another blog. I know its been a while but I have been on the grind getting you new info and following some of the most dynamic and talented people New York has to offer. On Sunday Dec. 4 2011, Green Studio NYC had a chance to hangout and put in some work with my fellow Pioneer Mr.Knight of the Powerful Pioneers at the National Black Theater in Harlem NYC. We had a chance to talk with the likes of Brother Polight, Clequot the Naga Nesut Bity, Bro. AA Rashid, Sa Neter, Blue Pill and more. I also got a chance to catch some exclusive footage of Dr. Phil Valentine giving a lecture. I had a good time and this lecture answered a few questions I had in the back of my mind. Enjoy the videos below, I have more to come...
What's up? I know its been a while since I left a blog but
I've been on vacation in Columbus, Ohio enjoying the scenes,
music, art and history. I visited a few locations and had a chance
to take some incredible pictures. Being surrounded by so much
nature inspired me to start painting. I never thought I would get
into painting but honestly it's pretty cool. I traveled a
lot while in Ohio but one place that really got my attention
was the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. This place is
a true testament to the African Americans struggle. It' so dope I
had to visit it twice.
People working the Underground Railroad developed their own language to communicate with participants, safe places, and other codes that needed to be kept secret. Attempting to escape on the Underground Railroad was a long journey filled with uncertainty, fear, and the very real possibility of capture or death. Winter was the best time of year to escape, since the long nights provided a frozen Ohio River. All this info is played on an I-pod app as you tour the museum. I took the liberty of bringing a camera and recording my visit so that you can witness it your self.
The good old days of making a record and running over to
the nearest label to get signed are over. A new hip hop
frontier is being discovered as you read this blog. Indie labels
are going corporate and the larger labels are losing record sales.
Entire marketing divisions are shutting down and the average artist
walks around with a smart phone where they can directly market to
their target audience through the various social media sites. Your
average emcee has to now behave more like an
emCEO.
The structural foundation of the music industry is being tested and the results to date seem to indicate that it is failing. Companies like Apple have capitalized on the music industry's failures and have managed to stake their claim in the digital music world by collecting 30% of proceeds from every download. There are over 200 million iPods in circulation, that’s not counting iPhones and iPads. The result is that Apple has online music distribution on lock. Even the Major labels have to bow down. Listen to the industry giants fall, hip hop. This is our chance to create a new business model. We now have the power to change the way things have been done for all these years. I encourage you all to take on the challenge.
