I love to witness lyrical challenges! Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” is definitely stirring up some controversy. Is Kendrick Lamar really the King of New York? A good friend of mine brought up a good point which makes a lot of sense. He said that Kendrick Lamar is the King of New York because we made him the King of New York. How? Every time you turn on the radio, New York stations are always playing his music. They’re the ones making him relevant. Some of these New York radio stations and DJ’s need to focus more on “New York” artists again period! Kendrick Lamar also compared himself to Nas and Jay Z and if you ask me it’s way too soon to make that comparison; these dudes are legends!
In my opinion, Biggie still holds the crown as King of New York. Jay Z??? Ehh… I think he’s playing around. Did Jay bring it this time around with the Holy Grail album? No, but there are some true Jay Z fans out there who beg to differ. I think Jay’s album was rushed and of course he’s not the same Jay anymore. I give him a lot of credit for representing the man he is today which is a husband, dad, entrepreneur, and a well-seasoned traveler who mingles with a whole bunch of politicians. He’s on that grown man shit now! Truth be told, we have some heavy hitters in New York who grind each and every day to make it happen. If they’re not being promoted and given the credit they deserve, they will continue to go unnoticed.
Now let me get on Meek Mill and
his wack ass excuse for not firing back on this friendly challenge!
He talks about he’s good friends with Kendrick Lamar and that he
understands what he’s trying to do but will pass. Is it because
he’s scared and can’t compete? He sounded soft when he said that!
Don’t get it twisted, I like Meek Mill and he’s good with the party
jumping songs but damn dude do you have any lyrical skills? A
sister really wants to know! I will say this… He probably
thought about what he said and gave it a lot of thought because he
posted a video up on Instagram showing us that he’s in the studio
putting in that work. He writes: “when I get at niggaz… I get at
niggas I’m from Philly this what I do!
#uready”.
Was his comment directed towards
Kendrick Lamar? I can’t wait to find out! Did you hear Joell
Ortiz’s comeback “Outta Control”? I liked it and kept nodding my
head agreeing with what he was saying especially when he was
referring to some of these rappers receiving awards they don’t even
deserve! Sad but true! A$AP Ferg’s response to Kendrick
Lamar’s verse was “What’s a King to Lord”. A one-liner bruh? Wow,
it’s like that A$AP???
I’m waiting for Drake too! We have more rappers from New York firing back then the rappers whose names were mentioned in the song SMH. What’s wrong with this picture? What are your thoughts? We really want to hear from you!
XOXO,
Roza
